The ensuing plot soundly balances villainy, excitement, scientific virtue, misguided but sincere terrorism, dubious government shenanigans, and a rousing force of nature--to wit, a hurricane. If not great, the book is certainly good, and if it is not a book to keep you up all night, it will certainly hold your interest all the way. Moreover, it admirably avoids excessive didacticism, despite its ecoconsciousness, and reads like a novel rather than the first version of a screenplay, although it probably would translate well to the screen.
